CSIRO have developed heliostats used in solar energy that have a smaller footprint and use an advanced control system. In an agreement with China, the Australian heliostat technology will be used to help China deliver solar thermal. The technology maximises the amount of power generated and reduces the cost of a Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) plant.
Move over Get Smart! Could you power your mobile phone by walking in these shoes? A group of mechanical engineers have developed innovative shoes that could produce up to 10 watts of energy per shoe. With a technology that uses “reverse electrowetting” – pioneered in 2011, a conductive liquid interacts with a nanofilm-coated surface and the mechanical energy is directly converted into electrical energy.
Big business taking clean energy seriously and making significant cost savings. Oil and gas giant has committed to 5,000 rooftop solar PV installations over 5 years with estimated electricity savings of $40 million per year, lowering annual carbon emissions by 100,000 tons.
The Lego Factory in Jiaxing, China will install 20,000 solar panels, generating almost 6 gigawatts of clean energy annually and avoiding more than 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Project Sunroof is a Google innovation where homeowners in the USA can enter their address and get a sophisticated understanding of their solar potential and whether it makes sense for them to go solar.
Localised energy featuring local power and sharing is disrupting the big utilities. Blockchain technology allows for solar sharing and micro-grids. It securely tracks where electricity was generated, where it can travel to and who used it.
